Jae Minard works between documentary and speculative fiction. His films, which have been featured at Tribeca, Sundance, SXSW, the Museum of Modern Art and on Netflix, examine the nature of being human in a world of accelerating change.

In our present geologic era, human civilization has reshaped the planet in its image. Engineering has outpaced evolution and supply chains have disrupted ecosystems. With god-like technologies in our pockets, ordinary people have never wielded such sublime power and the future of life has never been more uncertain. We may be the last generation who can prevent the mass extinction of species, including ourselves. In this time, films have a responsibility to tell the truth, to help connect the stories of everyday people to the tides of global change, and to activate audiences to become participants in creating a life-sustaining world.

Minard’s work in documentary started in outer Mongolia where he lived with nomadic reindeer herders (supported by a 2008 Fulbright Fellowship). Through work with environmental organizations and indigenous communities on the frontlines of climate change, he brings a global perspective to the most urgent stories of our time.

In a post-pandemic world when the stakes couldn’t be higher, Minard’s films tell the truth with bold vision and fierce compassion.
